Skybreak is music that provokes personal introspection. It explores moments of human uncertainty and ambivalence. The opening fragmented trombone statements are presented as though they are posing questions and searching for answers. As the music progresses, various conversations can be perceived as the trombone and piano interact with each other. Many moments of call and response appear which is sometimes followed by both instruments coming together in agreement. By measure 102, musical themes are less fragmented, and it becomes clear that spiritual enlightenment and the quest for resolution has occurred. The height of introspection has arrived, resulting in personal comfort and fulfillment.
