The legend of the Pied Piper, of course, goes back to medieval times, with countless versions — some with happy endings and some that end in utter tragedy, remorse, and sadness. Spoiler alert: In this version, under severe pressure from the townsfolk, the duplicitous Council finally agrees to pay the Piper, and the children are reunited with their families.
The first fully staged version since its creation in 1932 was performed in 2025. The production was mounted by Davide Casali. It combined a small orchestra with a children’s chorus from the nearby town of Udine with actors from a local theater group, for two performances — one for the public at large and the second for ~500 school kids — at the spectacular Politeama Rossetti theater.
