Description
I was fortunate enough to meet the Cuban poet Cintio Vitier and his wife, fellow poet Fina García Marruz. Almost 60 years old, Cintio reminded me of a literary giant he considered his mentor, Lezama Lima. Affable and a good conversationalist like Alejo Carpentier, Cintio always greeted me with a smile. Rather than converse, I provoked him with a variety of topics, which he took on without flinching. My interest in the literary world that surrounded him was a source of constant dialogue and questioning for me.
